A few days ago, we discovered Intel’s plans to kill off AVX-512 enablement on Alder Lake CPUs permanently. Now, as reported by hardwareLuxx, BIOS updates for Z690 motherboards with new Intel microcode have been released that officially disable AVX-512 for good.

While it is extremely hard to find regular DDR5 DIMM memory modules to install into Intel Alder Lake/Z690-based desktops, you can actually buy DDR5 SO-DIMMs for next-generation notebooks and small form-factor designs today.

AMD stock rose by 11.2% today as Facebook announced the use of AMD-based EPYC processors in its data centers. With the inclusion of Facebook, AMD now supplies numerous top companies with large data centers, giving it additional ammunition to fight Intel for market share.

AMD is not about to let Intel steal the show with its new Alder Lake-based Core i3 processors. Instead, AMD is reportedly poised to fight back with new Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 chips codenamed Renior-X.

Intel announced at the Supercomputing 2021 tradeshow that the company’s forthcoming Sapphire Rapids processors will come with up to 64GB of HBM2e memory and also pointed to brisk development on the platform side, with a broad range of partners working to bring OEM systems to market with both Sapphire Rapids and Ponte Vecchio.

For now, Intel offers only the highest-end Alder Lake processors for desktops with up to 16 Golden Cove and Goldmont cores. However, come 2022, the company will roll out its mainstream and entry-level parts with up to six cores. As it turns out, those CPUs will use entirely different silicon die that will physically lack energy-efficient Goldmont cores.

Owing to its very strong lineup of client and server CPUs as well as booming demand for PCs and servers, AMD has been posting a 50% year-over-year revenue growth for five consecutive quarters.

By now, it’s common knowledge that Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake will be the first mainstream processor platform to embrace DDR5 memory.

Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake processors are scheduled to debut in Fall 2021 to compete with the Best CPUs for Gaming on the market.
